Diet Update

I recently had a request for a diet update. It came from someone who knows I’m in no shape to give an update, but that’s why I started this in the first place, so I would be held accountable. Back in February/March I decided to take a break from dieting for a couple of weeks. That couple of weeks just ended two weeks ago. So, my extended break resulted in 15 pounds in the wrong direction. I’m back on now and apparently have someone watching, waiting, yearning for an opportunity to pounce. Ok Tara, I got the point. Thanks for the nudge.

What About Bob?

I have spent the last hour or so researching Bob Barr, and I like most of what I have read. I don’t completely agree with all of his views, but I don’t completely agree with all of anyone’s views except my own. Barr was once a strong conservative who basically got fed up with the usual political games and joined the libertarian party.

Say What You Mean

In a time of politicians side stepping real questions and blowing smoke about issues, Bob Barr leaves very little gray area in his comments. With every question there is a very definitive answer. With most politicians taking a “stand for nothing fall for anything” approach to draw in the “undecided crowd”, Bob Barr speaks his mind and heart.

I can’t say that I am endorsing Barr, yet, but I can say that from what I have read he is the most impressive candidate still on the ballot.

Diet Update: Week 16

I’ve been away from the desk for several weeks. My wife and I are building a house, meaning that we have done a majority of the work ourselves. We have been in the final stages and really poured all of the time and money we could gather to be in by Christmas. It didn’t quite happen, but we are only days away now. Anyway, for the past 2 months I have either been at my paying job, working on the house, or trying to get a nap between the two.

No Diet During The Holidays

Trust me, I say “the holidays” as a collective group including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. If “Christmas” offends you I don’t want you here anyway. Ok, I got that off of my chest, back to the point. Christmas starts for my wife and me at the end of October when Christmas Made In The South comes to town. From there we hit Warm Springs, GA for their Candlelight Tour Festival in mid November. Next is Thanksgiving followed by Callaway Garden’s Fantasy in Lights. Now we head into December with Christmas parties, Christmas dinner, (we make it to at least 3), and New Year’s celebration. Here’s the part that’s relative to my diet: all of these activities include some of the best food and snacks around. I was planning on being strong and sticking to the diet, that lasted until I walked through the doors at the Columbus River Center for Christmas Made In The South and smelled the fudge and cinnamon roasted almonds. I then pushed my diet aside and enjoyed weeks of sugar and carbs.

The Result Of My Fall

I gained 7 pounds over the last 2 months. I went back on the diet last week and have lost several pounds already. I don’t regret one bite.

The Stats

Week 16 weight: 343

Total loss: 43 pounds

Really Quick Diet Update

I still don’t have much time to write, but here’s a quick update just to let you know that I’m still here and still a loser.

Not even sure what week it is but:

Weigh in: 350 lbs

Total loss: 36 lbs

Diet Update: Week 6

I usually try to post my weekly updates on Friday or Saturday, but I’m a little late this week. I went camping with my son this weekend and that was the reason for: 1) I didn’t get to post an update, and 2) I only lost 1 pound. I enjoyed hobo dinners, hotdogs, chips, s’mores, and all of the other camping essentials. I’m back on track now, but I’m not worried about last week. The time we had camping was more than worth taking a break from my diet.

Week 6 weight: 357 pounds
Week 6 loss: 1 pound
Total loss: 29 pounds

Diet Update: Week 5

Staying the course. Not much excitement in the diet this week, other than still losing weight. I started drinking Monavie about a month ago, but I’m still not quite ready to give it a full review. My opinion so far is good, but one month hardly amounts to research. I have seen some really good, and unexpected, results. I’m going to lay off the juice for a week or two to see what happens. I’ll probably hit it again after a couple of weeks and compare the results from all three phases ( a month on, a few weeks off, back on).

The Stats:

End of week 5: 358 pounds

Week 5 loss: 4 pounds

Total loss: 28 pounds

Diet Update: Week 4

It appears that the shock I gave my system last weekend worked. I lost 4 pounds this week and have lost a total of 24 pounds in the last 4 weeks. I’m starting to see a difference in the way my clothes fit and how I feel. It’s all good.

The Stats

Week 4 weight: 362

Week 4 loss: 4 pounds

Total loss: 24 pounds

Diet Update: Week 3, Sorta

I had about 4 days where I was so busy that I didn’t know which way was up, so I didn’t post an update on Friday. There wasn’t much to update anyway. I lost two pounds early in the week but by the end of the week I had gained one back. I’ve lost 20 pounds in three weeks, which is pretty good, but I have a terrible trend going. 14 pounds one week, 5 the next, and then 1 pound. I’m not sure why. I didn’t change anything about what I was eating except for the no sugar candy, but it is not supposed to be absorbed like regular sugar. I am going to try to jumpstart the weightloss again. I ate carbs all day Saturday and then hit the diet again Sunday. I’m hoping this will prompt more loss. If not, I will cut out the candy.

The Stats

Week 3 ending weight: 366

Total loss: 20 pounds

Diet Update: Week 2

Thank God for Splenda! I can still have coffee with Splenda sweetened vanilla, hazelnut, kahlua, or raspberry syrups. (Yea, I like drinks with little umbrellas too, what’s it to ya?) There are so many treats made with Splenda now that I really have no need for sugar. I have substituted Splenda for sugar in many recipes and it tastes great. Splenda also makes brown sugar that’s really good on ham. Andes Mints, Coffee Nips, and Miniature Reese’s Cups are available with Splenda, and they taste as good as the real thing. I have been seeing the sugar alcohol content added to many labels recently. I don’t know exactly what this is, so I will check into it some before I get too carried away. According to most labels sugar alcohol appears to be ok.

The Stats

Week 2 weigh in: 367lbs

Week 2 loss: 5lbs

Total loss: 19lbs

Diet Update: Week 1

I had originally planned to post updates after my monthly visits to my doctor. I have now decided to make those my scheduled posts and also add random posts between visits as I see fit. Get it…as I see fit…I’m on a diet…diet=fit…nevermind, it’s not as funny when I have to explain it.

I have cut out most carbs. I still get some complex carbs, but even those are very limited. I have mainly been focusing on sugar, keeping sugar intake below 10g/day and carbs below 30g/day. I have also added a special juice blend, but I will discuss any effects of that after I have had sufficient time for a thorough evaluation.

The weigh in
End of week 1: 372 pounds
Week 1 loss: 14 pounds
Total loss: 14 pounds
